Orem-based Utah Valley University has opened a dental hygiene lab and community dental clinic, according to an Oct. 25 news release.
Here are five things to know:
1. The facility, located at the university's Lehi, Utah, campus, will be used to train dental hygienists.
2. The center has 24 chair-workstations, an increase from the previous 15 chairs in the dental hygiene program.
3. About 3,000 individuals will have access to free and low-cost dental care at the clinic.
4. The Provo-Orem, Utah, area will need 63 new dental hygienists annually to keep up with regional growth and workforce turnover.
5. Services offered at the clinic include dental cleanings, periodontal scaling and root planing, fluoride applications, dental X-rays, dental hygiene diagnosis, dentist exams, referrals, bleach trays, night guards, prescription fluoride, sealants, local anesthesia and nitrous oxide administration.
