The Dentist and Dental Hygienist Compact Commission held its initial meeting, marking the first time the 10 states that approved the compact gathered to discuss the commission.
The interstate compact, which was approved by Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Minnesota, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin, allows dentists and dental hygienists to practice across multiple states with a single license, according to a Sept. 9 news release.
At the meeting, commissioners discussed potential rules clarifying "clinical assessment" language, the powers of the commission officers, and options for the data sharing system.
Commissioners will likely adopt bylaws and administrative rules, elect officers and discuss the shared data system that participating states must join during the next meeting.
It is expected that the commission can start accepting applications for the privilege to practice in compact member states in fall 2025, the release said.
