South Texas College in McAllen is developing an associate of applied science in dental hygiene program, funded by a $1 million grant.
In addition to the dental hygiene program, the funding will also be used to create a workforce development and continuing education center for healthcare professionals at one of the college's buildings, according to a July 11 news release from the school.
The grant is intended to provide non-traditional learners and workers in the McAllen and Rio Grande Valley areas by engaging underrepresented groups in educational programs.
The grant is from the U.S. Department of Labor and will last through June 30, 2027, the release said.
