Here are six dental schools that have launched scholarships, created programs and more to help alleviate workforce issues in the dental industry that Becker's has reported on since March 29:
1. The University of Pikeville (Ky.) partnered with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Medical in Kentucky to create a scholarship program to provide financial support to dental students that are committed to providing oral healthcare services in rural communities in eastern Kentucky.
2. Graduates from the Milwaukee-based Marquette University School of Dentistry became the first class in the U.S. to receive 'privilege diplomas'.
3. Northcentral Technical College in Wausau, Wis., set to create the first dental therapy training program in the state.
4. Texas City, Texas-based College of the Mainland is set to launch a dental hygiene associate degree program.
5. The University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine is planning to expand its apprenticeship program for dental assistants to include more than 60 student trainees.
6. Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in Green Bay is creating a new program to train a new position in dental practices.
