Fort Myers, Fla.-based Hodges University is launching a new dental hygiene program, according to a July 19 report from CBS affiliate WINK.
After the first semester in the program, students will spend 12 hours each week at the school's dental hygiene clinic to gain clinical experience that includes screening patients for oral diseases, performing dental cleanings, taking digital X-rays, sterilizing equipment and providing preventive care, according to the university's website.
It is the only dental hygiene program in Florida that offers a bachelor's degree.
The next cohort of classes begins Sept. 5.
