About 20.3 million people have been disenrolled from Medicaid as of April 19, according to data from KFF.
KFF has been tracking Medicaid enrollment since May 3 after the continuous enrollment requirement enacted during the COVID-19 pandemic ended March 31. The tracker uses information from state websites and CMS.
About 19.2 million people had been disenrolled as of March 26.

1. More than 94 million people were enrolled in Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program in March 2023.
2. The CareQuest Institute for Oral Health warned in April 2023 that more than 14 million adults who are on Medicaid could lose their dental coverage as part of the redetermination process.
3. Approximately 44.4 million people have had their coverage renewed so far.
4. There are still renewals waiting for 29.4 million people.
5. KFF reported a wide variation in disenrollment rates across reporting states, which could be attributed to early renewal targets and differences in renewal policies and system capacity.
6. Texas has disenrolled 2.1 million people so far, the most of any state.
7. California ranked second for most disenrollments at 1.6 million, but it has also renewed coverage for the most people at 6.1 million.
8. Hawaii is the only state to report a net increase in enrollment.
9. Across all states with available data, 69% of all people disenrolled had their coverage terminated for procedural reasons, which can include people who did not complete the renewal process.
10. Children accounted for nearly 37% of Medicaid disenrollments, but KFF noted that data on this is limited.
