Carestream Dental updates claims processing amid cyberattack fallout

Dental software company Carestream Dental has updated its claims processing to help customers during the ongoing effects of the Change Healthcare cyberattack.

Change Healthcare, a revenue cycle management subsidiary of Optum, was hit with a cyberattack that has been ongoing since Feb. 21. The cyberattack is affecting dental, medical and pharmaceutical companies, including dentists' abilities to process claims, the ADA said Feb. 27.

Carestream Dental said its IT security team confirmed the breach did not extend to the company's systems. The company is also monitoring for indicators of compromise, according to a Feb. 29 news release.

Carestream Dental said it was able to reroute claims through its own clearing house and also restored insurance verifications for applicable payers. The company said more than 97% of dental claims are currently being processed.

Carestream Dental also created a centralized web page where customers can get updates on the company's services, including a list of payers capable of processing claims and alternative solutions for prescriptions, patient statements and more.

Other dental companies have recently updated their claims processing amid cyberattack's aftermath, including Henry Schein, Patterson Dental and Vyne Dental.
