The law firm Lynch Carpenter is investigating claims against Delta Dental of California related to a recent data breach, according to a Dec. 18 news release.
Delta Dental of California was affected by a data breach on the MOVEit file transfer software that affected an estimated 2,500 organizations worldwide. The insurer learned of the attack June 1, according to a notice posted on its website. The company's investigation found that information had been acquired without authorization.
A Sept. 5 submission to HHS stated that 501 people were affected by the breach. However, a data breach notification submitted to the Maine attorney general's office said more than 6.9 million people were affected.
"We are deeply committed to protecting the information entrusted to us and take issues like this very seriously. Immediately after being alerted of the incident, we took steps to contain and remediate the incident and protect our data. We also launched a thorough investigation, led by a team of independent third-party forensics, analytics and data mining experts, to determine what information was impacted and with whom it is associated," a spokesperson for Delta Dental of California said in a statement shared with Becker's. "In collaboration with Kroll, a global leader in risk mitigation and response, we recently concluded our extensive investigation and are in the process of notifying impacted individuals. To support the approximately 7 million impacted individuals, we are offering 24 months of complimentary identity monitoring among other services and resources."
