Oral surgery is seeing an increase in female providers entering the field, and one MSO is capitalizing on the trend.
Irving, Texas-based U.S. Oral Surgery Management has been ramping up its recruiting efforts in recent years and has made it a core focus for 2024, emphasized by the promotion of Jade Vardeman to vice president of surgeon recruitment earlier this year.
Henry Moomaw, the company's CFO, recently spoke with Becker's about how the company is taking advantage of the influx of female oral surgeons as part of its recruitment efforts.

Question: What trends are you following right now?
Henry Moomaw: There's some influx now in the residency programs with more females going through those programs now. That's a great trend we're seeing in what was historically a male-dominated profession until the past few years.
Before, some of the finances and challenges to get into programs for women were barriers that are not there anymore, which is great. So we're seeing an influx in those programs and we're doing the recruiting events and getting the data seeing more and more women moving into the industry. We're certainly going to embrace that and try to promote that. We've got some really strong female surgeons and leaders at our existing practices — we've brought on several in the last year — and we'll continue to increase the percentage.
