As the dental industry continues to evolve, dentists are focusing on the logistics of running their practices, with staffing and efficiency top of mind.
Becker's asked two dental leaders what their priorities were for this coming fall. Their answers are below:
Scott Ballard, DMD. Owner of Ballard Family Dentistry (Saginaw, Texas): My No. 1 goal this fall is to get my seven practices as efficient as possible before the upcoming high inflation and high interest rates hit us. We are planning on finishing some construction projects before rates shoot up. Also, tighten staff responsibilities. During the lockdown, the staff went over and above expectations. Now that life is getting back to normal, we need to fine-tune staff levels and responsibilities.
Barry Lyon, DDS. Dental Director at Dental Care Alliance (Sarasota, Fla.): My utmost priority for this fall is attempting to fill all employment vacancies. Like practically all DSOs and private practices, there has been great difficulty hiring dental hygienists, dental assistants and front desk personnel. Clearly, we are competing against all of those practices for the same pool of applicants. We are committed to aggressively recruiting and extensively training all new employees.
