10 dental education updates in 2 weeks

Here are 10 updates to know on the dental education space, as reported by Becker's since Feb. 10:

1. Jackson, Miss.-based UMMC School of Dentistry is constructing a new, upgraded clinical building.

2. The University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha will begin offering a dual degree in dentistry and public health.

3. Kenneth Chance Sr., DDS, will step down from his role as dean of Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine Dec. 31.

4. Fadie Coleman, PhD, was removed from her position as assistant dean of the Harvard School of Dental Medicine's Office for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging.

5. The Georgia House Health Committee unanimously passed a bill to help dental schools in Augusta and Savannah, Ga., to recruit faculty members.

6. Nader Nadershahi, DDS, resigned as dean of San Francisco-based Dugoni School of Dentistry of the University of the Pacific in Stockton, Calif.

7. Georgia Southern University opened an on-campus dental clinic to expand access to care.

8. Pocatello-based Idaho State University requested additional funding from the state to expand the Idaho Dental Education Program.

9. The University of Nebraska at Omaha and the University of Nebraska Medical Center partnered to launch a dual degree in dentistry and business.

10. The Commission on Dental Accreditation granted accreditation for the Little Rock, Ark.-based Lyon College School of Dental Medicine.
