4 Illinois dental laws going into effect in 2025

Here are four laws impacting the Illinois dental industry that go into effect Jan. 1, 2025, according to a Dec. 23 news release from the Illinois State Dental Society.

1. HB 4789: Insurance companies will be required to honor prior authorizations, unless there are certain circumstances that render the prior authorization invalid. Insurers are also required to give dentists advanced notice that the insurance company will lease the network. 

2. HB 5059: Allows dental students to practice in a CODA-approved specialty or residency training program for three months until they receive their dental license from the Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation.

3. SB 3268: Secures a 33% increase of Medicaid reimbursement rates for deep sedation and intravenous sedation.

4. HB 4891: Regulates third-party financing in dental practices. Dentists and employees are prohibited from filling out financing applications on behalf of patients, prohibited from providing patients with electronic devices to complete financing applications and are prohibited from promoting or advertising third-party financing during patient treatments or in sensitive settings.
