Here are four dental practice closures and three reopenings that have taken place since Sept. 3:
Closures
1. A dental practice in Dixon, Ill., closed after being in operation for 123 years. Kim Brokaw, DDS, and Mark German, DDS, retired after working together for 21 years.
2. An oral surgeon in New Hampshire closed his practice after providing care for more than 34 years.
3. Patients are working to obtain their dental records after a DentalWorks location in Winston-Salem, N.C., closed unexpectedly.
4. The St. Mary Health Center Medical and Dental Clinic in Wilmington, N.C., closed after 30 years of operation after a lengthy legal battle with the Basilica of Saint Mary. Clinic leaders are now looking to reopen the clinic closer to the city's downtown area.
Reopenings
1. The Carroll County Health Department dental clinic in Westminster, Md., reopened after going nearly a year without a dentist. The clinic closed last December after losing its dentist, but it has since hired Alva Smith, DDS.
2. Dennis Pitsilides, DDS, reopened a dental practice in October after the previous owner's retirement.
3. Community Health Program reopened a practice in Great Barrington, Mass.
