Supporters of the St. Mary Health Center Medical and Dental Clinic in Wilmington, N.C., protested the clinic's closure Nov. 24, WECT reported.
Four notes:
1. The clinic had been in operation for 30 years and was the city's only surgical dental clinic that provided free services to low-income patients.
2. The clinic recently closed after a lengthy legal battle that started when the owner of its building, the Basilica of Saint Mary, asked the clinic to relocate so that the church could expand its Catholic school.
3. Supporters of the clinic reportedly protested outside of the church and passed out informational fliers to raise awareness of the situation.
4. Clinic leaders are now looking to reopen the clinic closer to the city's downtown area.
