The Wisconsin Technical College System recently got a funding boost that will help it increase the number of dental credentials it gives out each year, Wisconsin Public Radio reported Oct. 1.
Four notes:
1. The system received an increase in state funding and also got a donation from the Delta Dental of Wisconsin Foundation.
2. Delta Dental of Wisconsin's donation aims to help create nine dental hygienist, dental assistant and dental therapy programs throughout the 16-college system.
3. The colleges currently issue more than 26,000 credentials each year, but it is now expected to bump that number up by 200 more thanks to the additional funding.
4. Layla Merrifield, president of the Wisconsin Technical College System, told WPR that the increased credentialing will help increase access to dental care for residents in rural communities and who are under Medicaid.
