Former Iowa dentist sues state board over license revocation

A former Iowa dentist who had his license revoked earlier this year is now suing the state dental board, the Iowa Capital Dispatch reported Sept. 23.

The state board revoked the dental license of Phelan Thomas, DDS, in July on three counts, including improper contact with a patient or coworker and unprofessional conduct.

Dr. Thomas received 30 complaints during his 38-year career. He has denied any wrongdoing, according to Iowa Dental Board documents.

Dr. Thomas has filed a lawsuit in Iowa District Court to either reverse the revocation or modify it so that his license is instead placed on probation, which would still allow him to practice.

The board has denied any wrongdoing in its decision to revoke Dr. Thomas' license, the Dispatch reported.

A court hearing is scheduled for Dec. 6.
