A pediatric dentist is looking to open a dental office in Hadley, Mass., the Daily Hampshire Gazette reported Sept. 19.
The city's planning board recently held its first hearing on special permits for the 4,554-square-foot building that will house the second office of Hampshire Meadow Pediatric Dentistry.
Cyrus Safizadeh, DMD, said the practice is one of the few pediatric dental offices accepting Medicaid, and that the office gets 50 to 100 referrals a week from Berkshire County.
The board was concerned with the proposed size of the building and its parking lot in comparison to the land it will be built on, but Dr. Safizadeh said the size of the building will support the practice's business. A civil engineer also said the size of the parking lot will meet the needs of customers and employees.
Joseph Zgrodnik, DMD, an orthodontist who is also a member of the planning board, said he is concerned about whether plans for the building are realistic considering the number of dentists nearby that creates competition for the pediatric dental practice.
Another hearing for the project is scheduled for Oct. 15.
