Here are six updates on the dental industry in Illinois that Becker's has reported on since Aug. 15:
1. Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker signed a bill redefining teledentistry in the state.
2. A woman in Round Lake, Ill., was charged with two counts of practicing medicine without a license and five counts of computer tampering.
3. Lawmakers in Illinois passed House Bill 4789 and Senate Bill 3305. HB 4789 holds insurers liable for their prior authorizations, prohibiting insurers from denying claims submitted in procedures specifically included in a prior authorization, barring certain circumstances. SB 3305 requires insurers to provide coverage for medically necessary treatment for jaw injuries, through both accidents or diseases.
4. Toms River, N.J.-based DSO ProSmile expanded its network into the Midwest after acquiring Destiny Dental, which has locations in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin.
5. Brush Pediatric Dentistry opened a practice in Downers Grove, Ill., its second office location.
6. Three dental schools in Illinois earned endowments from the Illinois State Dental Society.
