High Point (N.C.) University Workman School of Dental Medicine and Wake Forest (N.C.) University School of Medicine recently signed a letter of intent to develop dental residency programs.
The programs would potentially provide training in several areas, including general practice residency, pediatric dentistry, oral medicine, orofacial pain and dental anesthesiology, according to a June 27 news release.
The partnership builds on previous work between HPU and Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist High Point Medical Center to expand oral care for patients receiving radiation or chemotherapy cancer treatment.
Muhammad Ali Shazib, DMD, dean of the HPU Workman School of Dental Medicine, said its collaboration with the medical school aims to enhance access to care by delivering integrated care.
HPU expects to welcome its first cohort of dental students in the fall.
