Hawaii's only no-cost dental clinic to remain open after $180K donations

Two large donations saved a no-cost dental clinic in Hawaii from closing its doors, KHON2 reported June 6.

Aloha Medical Mission was at risk of shutting down after more than 20 years of service due to a lack of funding. The clinic's board members estimated in May that the clinic had until this month or next month to remain open.

However, the clinic received two donations to keep it open: $130,000 from the Abigail Kawananakoa Trust and $50,000 from a local psychiatrist.

The clinic is also applying to be a Medicare provider to help it be more sustainable, KHON2 reported.

Aloha Medical Mission treats more than 300 patients each month.
