Rick Workman, DMD, founded Effingham, Ill.-based Heartland Dental in 1977. Here are four things to know about the company's founder and executive chair:
1. Dr. Workman's foundation provided High Point University in North Carolina with a gift to support the opening of the High Point University Workman School of Dental Medicine. The university broke ground on the school in September.
2. Heartland has grown to be the largest DSO in the U.S., supporting more than 1,700 practices across 38 states.
3. He also serves as chair of the executive advisor team at New Harbor Capital, a Chicago-based private equity firm.
4. Dr. Workman graduated from the Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine and practiced dentistry for more than 20 years before founding Heartland Dental.
