ADA releases 1st standard on clear aligners

The American Dental Association has made the first U.S. standard for orthodontic sequential aligners available for review.

There is currently no dental standard concerning the materials used to produce the aligners, according to an Aug. 27 news release from the ADA.

The proposed standard would allow aligners to be compared in terms of their physical, thermal and mechanical properties and behaviors, including creating mechanical testing to compare aligners made by different manufacturers.

In addition to testing methods for materials, the standard also includes requirements for the packaging and labeling of sequential aligners.
