The American Dental Association issued draft standards on forensic dental data and antimicrobial oral rinses available for review, according to a Jan. 27 news release.
Here are five notes on the standards:
1. The proposed revision to the American National Standards Institute/ADA standard for forensic dental data aims to develop common and standardized terminology forensic dental data.
2. The revision also includes uniform and consistent terms for human identification using orofacial data.
3. The new proposed ANSI/ADA standard No. 175 for antimicrobial oral rinses is a standard modified adoption of the International Standards Organization's standard for oral rinses, which defines their physical and chemical requirements, as well as test methods for antimicrobial oral rinses. The oral rinse standard also defines manufacturer instructions and labeling requirements, but does not apply to other delivery systems such as mouth sprays, foams and powders.
4. Standard No. 175 is not intended to be used to describe regulatory aspects, including prescription methods.
5. The draft standards are available for public review and comment until Feb. 24.
