5 states with the most, fewest dental shortage areas in 2025

California currently has the highest number of dental professional shortage areas in the U.S., according to recent data from the Health Resources and Services Administration.

The dashboard also shows that more than 10,000 practitioners are needed to fill shortage areas in the U.S.

Here are the top five states with the highest and lowest number of dental shortage areas in the U.S.:

Fewest

1. Delaware: 11 

2. Washington, D.C.: 11
