Dentists in Portland, Ore., and Los Angeles were the first to use a dental implant robot at their respective practices, they said this week.
Kelly Blodgett, DMD, of Portland-based Blodgett Dental Care, and Tony Barriere, DDS, of Los Angeles-based West LA Implants, were among the first to use the Yomi robot.
Miami-based Neocis manufactures the robot to decrease procedure time and increase precision. The device received FDA clearance in 2016.
In a March 18 article, Dr. Barriere told Spectrum News 1 that he has completed more than 40 implants with the robot since December.
"I wanted to get in on it early on and adopt it, so we could be on the forefront of that. I really do think it's going to change the industry," Dr. Barriere told Spectrum News 1.
Dr. Blodgett told local CBS affiliate KOIN March 17 that he's the first dentist in Oregon to use the robot to place ceramic implants.
