A dentist in Utah is warning other dentists and healthcare professionals of a scam that targets their license, according to a Dec. 3 report by CBS affiliate 2 KUTV.
Jae Cho, DMD, received a call from a scammer pretending to be from the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing, claiming that his dental license was about to be suspended.
The scammer told Dr. Cho that his identity was stolen in a money laundering and drug trafficking scheme and by hanging up he would forfeit his ability to defend himself in an investigation.
Mark Steinagel, director of the Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing, said that scammers have also been sending fake letters to licensed professionals in Utah, claiming that if they did not respond their license would be suspended.
The Hawaii Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs recently issued a similar warning to dental professionals.
